Propaganda

Filed under: Uncategorized — emmielovesyou @ 6:06 pm

Why does nearly all propaganda take the form of art?

I think that it takes the form of art because it is easier to get people to believe things that are more light-hearted. They relate to people’s inner child or children in general. Children are known to be more trusting and belive whatever they are told. Art is an easy way to get everybody to think and be influenced like achild.

Also art is a wayto show that whatever your idae is that is is good. Show that your idea is fun and the best and everything else is wrong and doing the wrong thing or has the wrong belief. You see that most propaganda uses light colors or upbeat music to get people to think that they are promoting whatever is best instead or dark colors that usually scare poeple and make them not suport that ad.

Knowledge issue associated with North Korea

Identify a knowledge issue associated with North Korea? Justify it as a TOK knowledge issue.

One knowledge issue associated with North Korea is: Is what they are being taught there the truth or is what other countries are teaching correct? Is either one 100% honest?

This relates to TOK becasue it is one of the same knowledge issue as the history knowledge issue. What is real and what is fake. It also relates to the ways of knowing with language (written history) and reason (What do we believe to be true and why?).

History

Filed under: Uncategorized — emmielovesyou @ 6:09 pm

Are we being taught “fake” stuff in history? Explain.

I don’t think we are being taught “fake” stuff. I think we are being taught biased stuff. Every article in history has a little biasness in it based on which side wrote it. You can never fully describe a conflict truthfully with absolutely NO biasness. No matter if the writer is in the conflict or not they are going to have a personal view on who started the conflict and how people won and stuff. No matter where you learn it or when, there is going to be a side favored because everybody has their own opinion which gets put into their story whether they want it to or not.

Who knows, maybe you’ll see me again making history in somebody’s opinion. Then again, I might not in another person’s eyes. We’ll just have to wait and see=)

Language

Filed under: Uncategorized — emmielovesyou @ 2:00 pm

Which form of language; written, spoken, or body language; would be most effective to convince someone that the world is round?  Explain.

I think you really wouldn’t need written unless you wanted to show that it has been a theory throughout history. I think the most effective would be a combination of  body and spoken language.  You could gesture about the shape and use your hands to show how enthusiastic you are and how insistent you are about it being round. Then of course you can use spoken language to tell people and explain your reasoning. You can’t explain fully that it is round with just gestures because some words and phrases don’t have
gestures to explain them.

I’ll explain more later=)

Art

Describe an example of when analyzing art diminished the value of the art.

The IB test!!!!

They analyze all your work and break it down to the point where they make you question your work. They suggest all these changes that are “optional” but are basically required if you want a higher score for the test next year. Art is about expressing your ideas and yourself through whatever medium you choose but the IB examiners take away your self expression and try to make you more like every other artists.

I’m sure that even tis blog wouldn’y meet their standards.

I’ll express myself more later.

Math

Filed under: Uncategorized — emmielovesyou @ 1:42 pm

Are mathematical constants (π, ethe golden ratio, etc.) natural or man made?  Pick one and explain

I’ll be explaining pi.

I think pi is natural. It was there before but we just hadn’t discovered it. The circumference divided by diameter will always equal pi if it is a perfect circle. It will always equal that. The only way it would be different would be if you measured in a different way but even then if you kept using the same system you would end with a differnt number but the ratio is the same.

It’s not man-made just man-discovered.

I’m sure you’ll discover more blogs here soon=)

human science

Filed under: Uncategorized — emmielovesyou @ 1:37 pm

Is religion a human science?  Explain.

I think that religion can be a human science. I think human science is just sets of beliefs which basically religion. Human science was created to unify people and the largest thing I can think of that unifies is religion. Both religion and human science were created in order to make people share something and feel less alone.

I think religion and human science are almost synonymous. If they are not synonymous then religion is a subset of human science.

I believe I’ll talk to you later=)

Ethics

Filed under: Uncategorized — emmielovesyou @ 2:45 pm

Can ethical questions be quantified?  Describe an example or counterexample.

I’m still undecided as to where I would place the cut-off for what is too much and what would be unethical. Even though I am undecided, the US government isn’t. They put a value on what is too much. They say if you steal more than $5000 then its a felony but if it’s less than that it’s basically ok and you only have a misdemeanor. Or if you have a certain amount of drugs on you or if you drive over a certain limit of alcohol in you body.

I don’t think the government takes into account the situations. Somebody could steal more than $5000 but they did to support their family whereas another person could steal less than $5000 but they have a ton of money and they just did it to prove that they could. I would say the person who stole less than $5000 was more guilty.

I think you can’t quantify all ethical decisions. You have to know the situation.

I’m sure I’ll be put in the situation to answer another question soon so I’ll talk to you then=)

2 Options – Choose to write on one

Option 1: Describe an example of when fear caused you to reason irrationally.

Option 2: Describe an example of when fear affected your sensory perception. Describe how it was affected.

Option 2: Fear affects many people and their senses. An example of when fear affected my senses was when I was up at my cabin with my friends. It was around 2 in the morning and we were walking back to the actual cabin from the bonfire. There is always some story circulating about bears around my cabin so we were very scared to walk back by ourselves. Due to our fear we concentrated our hearing to focus on every little noise. Every creak, every twig breaking, every step the other person took, we heard it all.

Along with our hearing being refined, our sight improved as well. Our eyes adapted to seeing in the dark so we did not get lost on the path on our way back. Our adjusted to the dark although we could not see as well as we would have during the day, our fear caused us to focus on seeing where we were going so we could get back to the safety of our cabin faster.

I fear I’ll sense you later so until then…=)

Natural science

Filed under: Uncategorized — emmielovesyou @ 6:10 pm

Describe an example of where you would use the scientific method without using math.

People use the scientific method almost everyday. I don’t mean they write it out and take it step by step like we did in class. I mean that most people, when learning something new, tend to from an opinion of what will happen before they enter a new situation.

For example, when a person transfers schools they already have an opinion of what the people are going to be like there. That person will already have an idea of how they will act which is the constant in the equation. The people’s actual attitude towards the person is the end result after the experiment. They collect data (people’s attitudes) and draw a conclusion without any math.

I’ll share more of my attitude later=)
